Introduction of the RESTART Racehorse Aftercare Programme
At the Hong Kong Jockey Club, we value our horse Owners and our racehorses. As part of our ongoing commitment to promoting and upholding horse welfare, we are delighted to introduce the RESTART racehorse aftercare programme.
This initiative reflects our dedication to the future and welfare of racehorses after their racing careers in Hong Kong. Our focus extends beyond providing world-class facilities and benefits; we aim to assist Owners in making the best decisions for their horses after racing.
The RESTART programme is designed to assist in the retirement process, ensuring that Owners have access to the best options for their horses based on future goals, with expert guidance from the Club’s equine professionals.
Further recognising the importance of finding new homes for our retired horses, the Club provides substantial assistance for Owners looking to export their horses. Implemented last season, along with the existing HK$100,000 travel subsidy, additional subsidy payments of HK$50,000 from the Club will continue.
For exported horses, the Club works with a number of international retraining and retirement facilities that support and care for our horses when they embark on their post-racing journeys. To learn more about retiring the racehorse, please visit the link below for the guidebook.
