When Italy introduced a new top tier for its official wine quality assurance system, Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita, Brunello di Montalcino was the first wine to be awarded that prestigious status.
The wines, made from Sangiovese grapes grown in the vineyards around the town of Montalcino in Tuscany, are among Italy’s finest.
Fattoria Poggio di Sotto, established in 1989 on the south-east side of Montalcino, occupies some of the best Sangiovese terroir in the region. Vineyard and winery policies of extremely low yields, organic viticulture and natural fermentation have consistently produced wines with great depth of character and pronounced elegance.
In Italy food and wine always go together, and the wines of Poggio di Sotto are specifically intended to partner fine cuisine.
This exceptional dinner at Centurion Restaurant will pair a selection of the wines with the cuisine of Executive Chef (Western) Shaun Anthony offering Members and their guests an opportunity to enjoy the estate’s wines from great vintage years, including the prized 2008 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva.
Introducing and explaining the wines will be guest of honour Maarten Leereveld, the estate’s commercial director. Early reservations are advised for Members wishing to experience these exceptional Tuscan wines.
