Temporary Closure of Swimming Pool and Changing Rooms in Happy Valley New Clubhouse (issued Saturday, 17 February)

The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) has informed the Club that a male Member has been infected with Legionnaires' disease and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

The CHP is tracing the patient’s movements, which includes visits to the Happy Valley New Clubhouse.  The CHP visited the Clubhouse on 16 February and collected environmental and water samples from the Vitality Pool, Steam and Sauna Rooms as well as shower cubicles 3 and 4, those being areas that were recently used by the Member.

The Club takes this incident seriously and is co-operating with the CHP in its investigation. Whilst the Club conducts regular testing of all swimming pools and jacuzzi and the closure of the relevant facilities is not mandatory at the moment, as a precautionary measure and to ensure the safety and well-being of our Members, the Club will close all relevant facilities until the CHP test results are completed. In the meantime, the Club will also consult CHP for any other measures deemed necessary.

It is our estimation that the facilities will be temporarily closed for approximately two weeks and we will keep Members informed of the reopening date.

During this period, Members may use the Hilltop Pools and Changing Rooms in Happy Valley Old Clubhouse. The opening hours for both the Indoor and Outdoor Pools in Happy Valley Old Clubhouse will be from 6am – 10pm daily. Unfortunately swimming lessons will need to be suspended during this period.

We do apologise for the inconvenience. We trust you will understand that the health and safety of Members and staff is of paramount importance for the Club.

Should you have any concerns or queries please write to us at membership@hkjc.org.hk or call 1812 (9am – 6pm) and we will connect you with the relevant person as quickly as possible.
