Sha Tin Racecourse’s Multi-Level Car Park opens to bring a brand-new arrival and parking experience

The Club’s world-class Racecourse facilities are considered the benchmark for the industry. Over the years, we have been making substantial investments to enhance our Racecourses, with developments such as the all-weather Parade Ring at Sha Tin Racecourse and the continuous refurbishments of Members-only dining venues.

On Friday, 2 December, the Club is pleased to unveil its latest development, the new Multi-level Car Park – P1 at Sha Tin Racecourse, which will further improve the overall race-going experience for Owners and Members, whose loyal support is vital to Hong Kong’s world-class racing scene.

Design and features

A lot of thought went into the design to improve the road alignment at Sha Tin Racecourse, resolve the long-standing concerns of Owners and Members over the inadequate covered parking facilities close to the Owners and Members Boxes, and enhance traffic flow efficiency and drop-off convenience.

In addition, the new P1 Car Park will improve connectivity to various Grandstand venues such as Owners Boxes, Jockey Club Box and the Main Lift Lobby B. The new features that have contributed to the improved connectivity are:

  • A dedicated covered footbridge from the new P1 Car Park
  • New escalators connecting to 3/F Owners Box and Jockey Club Box
  • Better circulation around the Hub area on the 2/F of Grandstand I, including wheelchair-friendly access to all areas

A key function of the new P1 Car Park is to offer greater convenience to Owners with starters on the day. It comprises 496 parking spaces, 50 of which are equipped with EV chargers. Other notable features include larger turning radiuses, wider spaces to accommodate larger vehicles, parking guidance indicators and availability signs.

With Owners with starters using the new P1 Car Park on racedays, more spaces in the Grandstand II Car Park will be allocated to other racegoers with table or private box bookings, including Owners without starters, Members, Racing Club Members and the general public. Furthermore, on non-racedays, 164 parking spaces within a designated zone can be accessed by Sha Tin Clubhouse users.

On racedays

On racedays, the P1 Car Park will be accessible by eligible users. Those with valid raceday RFID labels will be automatically granted access at the entrance. Eligible Members with electric cars may park at the EV charger lots. An email regarding Members’ parking eligibility on racedays was sent to Members in November.

Members who confirm their raceday table reservations at short notice will be issued with electronic QR codes for collecting a one-day parking label at the entrance.

New raceday drop-off arrangements

Private car passengers can continue to alight at the Members Main Entrance on racedays. Guest badges will be available for collection at the current Badge Office counter. With the opening of the P1 Car Park, taxis with passengers heading to Member areas will be diverted to its dedicated taxi drop-off and pick-up area on the first floor via the new ramp.

Guests of Members can access the Racecourse’s Members areas via the new footbridge. Raceday badges should be worn before arriving at the footbridge, as a new security checkpoint will be set up at the car park end of the footbridge.

Taxis carrying passengers for the public stands should continue to use the Grandstand taxi drop-off on the G/F of the P3 Car Park.

On non-racedays

On non-racedays, vehicles with valid RFID car park labels may continue to access the P2 Sha Tin Clubhouse Car Park or the designated parking zone in the P1 Car Park. Invited guests or Members without a valid RFID label will be issued with a pass at the security booth at the entrance of P1 Car Park to access parking in a designated zone within the building. Members with electric cars may park at the EV charger lots within the designated zone.

Sha Tin Clubhouse’s Multi-Storey Car Park to close on 1 December at 11:59 pm

Sha Tin Clubhouse’s Multi-Storey Car Park will cease operations on Thursday, 1 December at 11:59 pm and all non-raceday parking will shift to the designated zone in the P1 Car Park. Guests can reach the Clubhouse via a dedicated pedestrian crossing on the ground floor. The demolition of the Multi-Storey Car Park will begin in January 2023. We aim to keep disruption to a minimum and ask for your patience as we carry out the work.
