Insect Hotel

The Insect Hotel is a 3D structure that has been created using many different types of materials, shapes and textures, including soils, wood, plants and grasses to attract as many visiting species as possible. As the seasons change, the various ‘rooms’ in and around the hotel will be occupied with different visitors. Join one of our nature discovery workshops and learn more about this special feature in the garden. Look around the structure and you can find different species of ants, spiders, slugs and snails, millipedes, giant Asian centipedes, beetles, garden worms, long-tailed skinks, changeable lizards, sleeping butterflies, moths and many more. Come back often and see who has moved out and moved in!

Look around the surrounding area in the grasses and hedges and you find even more species. In the evening you can find many species of orb-weaving spiders coming out to make their webs in the hope of catching a meal. So if you see a spider web, please leave it alone so that the spider can enjoy its hunting as it has taken a lot of time and energy to build that web in the first place. And did you know that many spiders will eat their web each morning and recycle that energy to create a new web the next evening!
