Ancient Chinese Treasures Revealed

An incredible exhibition of over 150 sets/items of ancient Chinese artefacts, including grade-one national treasures, opened in April at the Hong Kong Museum of History. Sponsored solely by the Club’s Charities Trust, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: The Ancient Civilisation of the Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties in Henan Province is the first programme of the General History of Chinese History Exhibition Series, offering a rare glimpse into the formative period of early state during some of its earliest dynasties.

Running until 8 July, the exhibition explores the political, social and cultural landscapes, as well as the rituals and etiquette, of the three dynasties period, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of the Central Plains civilisation. Items on display include large and complete sets of bronzeware, jade ware, pottery, bone ware and oracle bones found at significant archaeological sites.

The visitor experience is enhanced with a series of Club-supported educational activities, including guided tours, expert talks and workshops, as well as an interactive and immersive educational zone. Teaching kits will also be distributed to territory-wide primary and secondary schools to support classroom education exploring the earliest dynasties in Chinese history.

Sports & culture is one of the strategic priority areas of the Club’s Charities Trust. The Club will continue to support a wide range of arts and cultural initiatives citywide and support the Central Government’s vision of developing Hong Kong into an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange, as outlined in the National 14th Five-Year Plan. This exhibition is co-presented by the Hong Kong Museum of History and Chinese Culture Promotion Office, which aims to help citizens learn more about Chinese culture and build their cultural confidence.
