A United Front for Healthcare

COVID-19 will not be the last pandemic. Therefore, we must remain vigilant and collaborative in preparation for the future emergence of infectious diseases, which respect no borders.

In October last year, The Hong Kong Jockey Club pledged HK$3 billion to strengthen epidemic preparedness in Hong Kong and to enhance regional co-operation in the Greater Bay Area for joint prevention and control, which was announced in the Chief Executive’s 2023 Policy Address.

In support of these initiatives, the Club and the Institute of Philanthropy (“IoP”), established by the Club and its Charities Trust, jointly announced the signing of three co-operation agreements in March.

Two of the agreements were signed with the National Health Commission, aiming to support the development of health talent in clinical services and health management, and to build the capacity of top medical and healthcare professionals. These agreements highlight the IoP’s support for the Healthy China 2030 Blueprint.

Another memorandum of understanding was signed with the HKSAR Health Bureau, with the Trust committing to support the Health Bureau and the Centre for Health Protection to strengthen system-wide preparedness for future outbreaks of infectious diseases. Initiatives under this agreement will also enhance regional co-operation in the Greater Bay Area for joint prevention and control.

Additionally, the Club’s HK$3 billion commitment is also supporting the establishment of the global headquarters of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Global Health Institute, announced in November last year. The first of its kind in Hong Kong, the institute aims to focus on translational vaccine technology through collaboration between local and global academics and institutions.
