Unity Through Sports

The Club sends its warmest congratulations to Hong Kong China Rugby following the successful final Hong Kong Sevens tournament at the Hong Kong Stadium in April.

For 30 years, the Hong Kong Stadium was the cherished home of the Sevens, after a redevelopment supported by the Club in 1992. The Club was also a partner in the reconstruction of the stadium’s turf pitch in 2015, enhancing its ability to host international sporting events.

This year, Club Chairman Michael Lee had the honour of presenting the Women’s Bowl to the Great Britain team and joining HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee and other guests for the presentation of the Men’s Cup to tournament winner New Zealand.

As the Official Community Partner of the Hong Kong Sevens for three consecutive years, the Club has embraced the spirit of inclusivity and sportsmanship. Through the Jockey Club Sevens Community Programmes, around 30,000 individuals from diverse backgrounds have enjoyed the thrill of sports, including rugby. These programmes culminated in a series of captivating events during the weekend of the tournament.

This year’s Jockey Club Sevens Community Programmes began with a lively Jockey Club Sport for All Carnival and the inspiring Jockey Club Elite Athletes Sharing Session: No Boundaries for Sports, during which 10 local sports stars from various disciplines motivated students and online viewers by sharing their personal journeys. The carnival attracted over 1,000 young participants, who enthusiastically tried their hands at a number of sports.

Throughout the Hong Kong Sevens, mini rugby players from local rugby clubs showcased their skills and passion for sports in the Jockey Club Mini Rugby Showcase, while students, underprivileged groups and people living with disabilities enjoyed the thrilling matches in person through the Jockey Club Sevens School Tour and the Jockey Club Sevens Community Experience. Members of the Club’s CARE@hkjc Volunteer Team also lent a hand, accompanying the visually impaired and students to enjoy the thrilling competition as well as providing face painting to Hong Kong Sevens fans.

Although this year’s Hong Kong Sevens have drawn to a close, the Club’s support for sports promotion goes on. The Jockey Club Volleyball Community Programmes return in June for the FIVB Volleyball Nations League Hong Kong 2024, bringing the joy of volleyball to the community.
